Program Structure: PGY-1
The PGY-1 year is primarily spent at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and is coordinated in conjunction with the Department of Surgery. The PGY-1 year is a transitional year that is divided into 13 4-week rotations on a variety of surgical and primary care services.

The goal of the PGY-1 year is to provide the basics of the care and evaluation of the surgical patient. During the 12 week rotation on Orthopaedics, the time will split between Jefferson University and Bryn Mawr Hospital.

At Jefferson Hospital, the PGY-1 will learn how to care for both the Spine/Trauma and Joint services. This will be excellent preparation for the large amount of responsibilities that PGY-2's will under take. Bryn Mawr Hospital exposes the PGY-1 to basic fracture care and management. PGY-1's will become comfortable evaluating, managing, and treating fractures in the Emergency Room as well as consultations on the hospital floor.

Time spent on the orthopaedics, rehabiltation medicine, non-operative sports medicine and radiology is preparation for the clinical responsibilities of the orthopaedic resident.
